Flax Seed Oil

POSTED BY: Samson Brands on Friday, December 3, 2010

How do you know if something is truly great? The only way to really know, is simply if it has stood the tried and true method; the test of time. As far as food and nutrition goes, the award for one of the top 10 greatest foods goes to Flax Seeds and Flax Oil. Flax is considered one of the greatest health foods of all time, and has been used throughout the ages of known Humanity.

While not a new food by any means, Flax is being re-discovered as a popular health food . Flax was treasured throughout the Ancient Green & Roman Empires for it's miraculous healing properties, and was a favorite "medicine” of Hippocrates of Cos; an ancient Greek Physician of the age of Pericles, who is regarded today as the "father of medicine”. Now-a-days, we understand exactly what Flax is and the benefits that it can bring to us.

Flax Seed Oil contains omega-6 and omega-9 essential fatty acids, B vitamins, potassium, lecithin, magnesium, fiber, protein, and zinc. Flax Oil also provides approximately 50% more omega-3 oils than what one gets from taking those fish oil vitamins, minus the nasty "fishy" after-taste. Researchers and Nutritionists claim and agree that Flax could be one of the most health-beneficial constituent s available on the market, right along-side a Multi-Vitamin.

This immense nutritional value aside, how about some Flax Facts? Flax seeds contain lignans, which are phytonutrients of a group of chemical compounds commonly found in plants. lignans are receiving quite a bit of attention lately due to studies showing that they contain possible anti-cancer properties, especially in regards to breast and colon cancer, which are two of the most common forms world-round. In the latest studies, it has been shown that a sufficient amount of lignans that are incorporated into a daily diet routine, seems to flush excess estrogen out of the body, thereby reducing the incidence of estrogen-linked cancers, such as breast cancer. In regards to colon health, Flax acts as a natural lubricant and a rich fiber source, lowering the risk of constipation.

Aside from their anti-tumor properties, lignans also seem to have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. It also goes the distance in helping your Cardiovascular System with those Omega-3 fatty acids by helping to lower Cholesterol and high blood pressure. The Omega-3 fatty acids also fight to prevent clots in arteries which could otherwise cause strokes and heart attacks. It's so powerful that studies show that it is even capable of lowering high blood pressure in individuals with Hypertension!

It's quite interesting to note that Flax actually has 100 times more lignans than other whole grains. As fantastic as Flax is, it had however almost been forgotten about in the mainstream modern world due to manufacturers opting to produce cheaper oils, as nutritious oils such as Flax are less profitable for them to mass-produce, let alone the cost for a small bottle turned off many potential customers. Flax also doesn't have a very long shelf life, especially Flax Oil. It's extremely light and temperature sensitive, so if you choose to purchase Flax Oil from your local Market, opt for the bottle that is black / dark brown (protecting it from light) and is in a refrigerated area.

So, what's the solution for incorporating Flax into your life without having to put a second mortgage on your home? Well Ladies and gentleman, thanks to upgrades in technology today, you now have the ability to head down to your local market, grab yourself a bag of Organic Flax Seeds, and make the darn oil yourself! SamsonBrands has introduced the Samson Oil Extractor is an attachment for the Samson Juicers, usable on both the Samson GB-9001 and the Samson Advanced single gear Juicers. The Samson Oil Extractor Hooks right into the motor in the same place that the Drum and Auger would go when juicing fruits and vegetables. Just like juicing those fresh fruits and vegetables, one can now grind and enjoy high-quality, organic oils. How does it work? Quite simply actually, The stainless-steel auger crushes the seeds which are fed into the chute ,and at slow speed presses oil into the collection cup / jar, and then discards the husks like the Samson would normally discard the pulp.

Flax seeds aren't just all that it can take! You can use any oil seeds of size, such as: Chia seeds, Sesame seeds, and Hemp seeds with ease. When you’re done, the Samson Oil Extractor takes about 15-20 seconds total to clean, it’s very user friendly! Simply remove the auger from the back of the unit, and with a cleaning brush scrub the inside of the unit. Once your unit is clean, and you have some fresh organic oil, don't discard the husks! You can use them as a salad topping, in soups, or in various breaded goods. They're perfectly safe AND healthy to eat!

This attachment works! I am using daily for 3-6 hours at our clinic for the making of flaxseed oil... works marvels! If you have the "new" attachment that comes with a plastic and the stainless steel strip, the seeds cannot pass to the auger, just cut the plastic strip and problem solved. This is the reason that do not works (the strips are for protection... you cannot put your finger with those strips in the auger, but who with a sane brain will do?)
